Mercy Corps’ transition to Prosper Global: 8 things to know

Why is Mercy Corps rebranding now?

This change reflects a multi-year process of research, reflection, and organizational evolution.

For more than a decade, research has shown that our current name and identity create barriers to awareness and understanding, particularly across languages and cultures.

At the same time, our organization has evolved. Our new identity reflects our evolution and our commitment to community-driven, innovative, and lasting solutions in a rapidly shifting global landscape.

Prosper Global authentically represents our people, purpose, and values – and reflects our fundamental belief that when every community can prosper, humanity moves forward together.

Tjada D’Oyen McKenna, Chief Executive Officer

Our world is at an inflection point. Decades of human progress are at risk from the convergence of conflict, climate shocks, and economic instability, while traditional models of aid are contracting. Organizations that can clearly communicate who they are and how they create impact will be best positioned to serve communities for the long term.

Prosper Global represents who we are today and the future we are building alongside communities worldwide.

Why are you changing your name?

The name Mercy Corps has served us well and helped us grow into the organization we are today. But as our work and the global context evolved in recent years, we recognized it no longer fully reflects our values or how we operate.

The name can carry religious, savior-oriented, and militaristic connotations that conflict with our values. It creates confusion with other similarly named organizations, and it does not translate or resonate in many languages spoken in the communities where we work. All of this creates barriers to our work and limits our impact.

Prosper Global signals progress, dignity, and possibility — values that are core to who we are, how we work, and what we aspire to achieve.

How did you choose the name Prosper Global?

We selected Prosper Global for its clarity, global resonance, and alignment with our mission, values, approach, and long-term vision.

The name was shaped by in-depth research across our global network, including:

  • A global staff survey with more than 1,300 participants
  • Surveys with 6,000 prospective donors in the U.S., U.K., and Europe
  • Interviews with program participants and partners
  • Cultural and linguistic testing across more than 60 language markets

The final name was approved by organizational leadership and our Board of Directors.

“Prosper” represents our belief that all people have the right to flourish and build a more secure and hopeful future.

“Global” emphasizes our team’s expansive reach and our commitment to working across borders, cultures, and contexts. It reflects both the scale of the challenges communities face and our belief that progress happens through shared humanity and collective action.

Does this change Mercy Corps’ mission or strategy?

No. The heart of our work remains the same: We continue to help people cope, adapt, and thrive in the face of conflict, climate change, economic hardship, and other crises.

Our organizational strategy guides where we work, how we structure our programs, and how we invest in innovation and partnerships. We continue to evolve our approach to adapt to a rapidly changing world and explore new opportunities to partner and innovate.

The rebrand aligns how we present ourselves with how we already operate – and sets the vision we are working towards. It does not change our mission, programs, or commitments.

Does Mercy Corps still respond to emergencies?

Yes. Emergency response remains central to our work.

We will continue to respond to conflict, climate-driven crises, natural disasters, and humanitarian emergencies around the world. At the same time, Prosper Global reflects our belief that communities deserve not just to survive crises, but to recover, prosper and shape their own future.

When will the name change happen?

We’re sharing our intent to change our name to Prosper Global. In the coming months we’ll continue operating as Mercy Corps while we prepare for a seamless transition.

In September 2026, we will begin a phased transition to Prosper Global. At that time, we will update our website, email domains, social media channels, and materials.

Because we operate in dozens of countries, some locations may transition on a different timeframe. We are intentionally taking a phased approach to ensure continuity, minimize disruption to programs, and maintain legal and operational compliance.

Yes. Prosper Global is the same organization you know today as Mercy Corps. Our corporate identity and charitable status are not changing.

Can I still donate to Mercy Corps?

Yes, you can continue donating as usual.

Donations made to Mercy Corps will continue to support our programs around the world. As we transition to Prosper Global, we will ensure there is no disruption to donation processing and that your support gets to those who most need it.
